Redefine Legacy

Objective

To refresh a legacy wine brand for a modern audience while honoring its deep California roots and pioneering spirit. Our goal was to evolve J. Lohr’s digital presence into a platform that speaks authentically to multiple generations — from longtime collectors to emerging enthusiasts — through story, clarity, and connection. The experience needed to reinforce trust and heritage while embracing new formats, new behaviors, and a more contemporary digital language.

Solution

As one of Kraftwerk Design’s earliest and most enduring collaborations, our relationship with J. Lohr has evolved alongside their brand. In this latest redesign, we focused on balance; preserving their warmth and heritage while introducing clarity, motion, and a renewed sense of sophistication. The process began by revisiting core brand values and narrative pillars: family, sustainability, stewardship of land, and multi-generational vision. From there, we re-architected the site experience to support modern paths to discovery — intuitive navigation, editorial storytelling, immersive photography, and streamlined wine exploration.

We leaned into a balanced visual language: warm, welcoming textures and reference to tradition, layered with modern typography and refined spacing. Every interaction was considered to feel confident yet inviting — a reflection of a brand that has earned its place and continues to grow forward.

Our workflow with the J. Lohr team was iterative and collaborative, pushed by shared creative direction. Years of trust allowed us to challenge conventions, simplify where needed, and push into a digital experience that feels both elevated and sincere. The final result honors the past while opening space for the future; A platform built for longevity and deeper brand connection.
